Surrey, July 2010 There's a chance that this might be a lesser-spotted pinion C affinis. The diagnostic difference is in the hindwing shading - blacker in affinis - and this species in my experience does not like you looking at its hindwing. affinis has been rare since Dutch elm disease but now appears to be increasing in Surrey.
