I use this piece of bark as one of the backgrounds for photographing moths. This picture shows that the moths (in this case all Noctuidae) will stay quiescent in moderate temperatures. When they did start to move one or two of them flew off while the rest just hid themselves under the bark.
The moths shown are: angle shades, barred sallow, brindled green and chestnut.
